Print & marketing for Dirk van den Broek

400 Items for 126 Stores

Supermarkets operate on a weekly cycle. New promotions, current offers, and no room for mistakes. On top of that, there are 400 different POS materials to manage, ranging from promotional stickers and opening-hours signs to flyers and cardboard displays. Em. de Jong develops and produces all of these materials for Dirk’s 126 store locations.

The real challenge is timing. If promotional materials arrive late or contain errors, the impact is immediately reflected in sales performance. Additionally, every store must be able to order its own materials through a single online portal without needing support from head office. This is exactly the type of complex challenge Em. de Jong excels at: making sure everything works perfectly, every time.

Every Store Has Its Own DNA

Each store is analyzed in detail to determine its unique “store DNA.” This ensures that every location receives exactly the materials it needs. For every product category, Em. de Jong knows how many materials are required and which types are most relevant, from barkers and display cards to window posters. The system even takes factors such as the number of checkout counters into account to determine the required quantity of campaign materials.

As a result, the costs of every new campaign can be calculated accurately in advance, allowing Dirk van den Broek to maintain full control over the budget.

Looking Two Weeks Ahead

Through the online portal, stores can independently order standard products whenever needed. Print materials, for example, are always available. The intelligent system also provides visibility of upcoming promotions up to two weeks in advance. This allows store managers to assess whether the standard quantities based on the store DNA are sufficient. If they want to highlight a promotion more prominently, they can simply order additional materials.

Another advantage is that previously used materials can always be reordered. Any leftover products can therefore be reused in-store at a later date.

The Results Speak for Themselves

The process optimization has delivered measurable improvements. Dirk has seen higher quality standards while store managers and employees retain control over their own operations. Error rates have been reduced, responsibilities are clearer, and the entire workflow has become more efficient.

The results include a 25% reduction in material costs, significant time savings in desktop publishing work, and less administrative effort for both head office and stores. By making smart use of existing logistics processes, unnecessary transport movements have also been eliminated, creating benefits across the board.
